Marketing for Utah contractors by trade, and why the order changes

A plumber and a concrete contractor don’t get work the same way. One gets a panicked call at night. The other gets a homeowner who’s been staring at a cracked driveway since March. Doing marketing for Utah contractors by trade means starting with that difference, not with a package.

I was a plumber for five years before I got into marketing. I started P2x Scales at the beginning of 2026, and I’ve run five accounts so far. My clients are in plumbing, demolition and handyman work. For the other trades below, I tell you how I’d run it, not how I did.

01

What leads for each trade

Here’s the short version. “Leads with” is the first place I’d spend time and money. The order changes because the way customers find you changes.

Trade Leads with Then Why Local Services Ads?
Plumbing Local Services Ads Search ads, GBP, missed-call text back Emergency calls go to whoever answers first. Utah cold snaps bring frozen-pipe spikes. Yes, “Plumbers”
HVAC Local Services Ads Search ads, GBP, maintenance plan reminders Two rush seasons and two slow ones. Plan customers fill the gaps. Yes, “HVAC”
Electrical Search ads, split by job LSA, GBP, a page per job type Service calls, panel upgrades and EV or solar work are three different buyers. Yes, “Electricians”
Roofing Google Business Profile and reviews LSA, search ads, Meta follow-up Hail hits the Wasatch Front, like it did in September 2026. Homeowners call the roofer they trust. Yes, “Roofers”
Remodeling A portfolio website Meta ads, search ads, long follow-up People research for months before a kitchen. Only kitchen, bath or general contractor
Concrete Google Business Profile Meta photo ads, search ads No LSA category, and cold weather limits when you can pour. No category listed
Handyman Google Business Profile and reviews LSA, review-request texts Small tickets can’t carry expensive clicks. Marketplaces are crowded. Yes, “Handyman”
Demolition Search ads on specific jobs Website, GBP, GC and restoration outreach Few searches, and commercial work comes from bids. No category listed

LSA categories are from Google’s eligible-categories list.

02

Why the order changes

Three things decide where I’d start for any trade.

How urgent the call is. A burst pipe or a dead furnace gets called in minutes. That’s where Local Services Ads and fast answering win. A remodel or a new driveway gets researched for weeks, so a website with real photos and steady follow-up matter more.

Whether Google even lets you in. Plumbers, HVAC shops, electricians, roofers and handymen can run Local Services Ads. Concrete and demolition aren’t on Google’s list, and remodelers only get in as kitchen, bath or general contractors. An agency that pitches you LSA without checking that first hasn’t done its homework.

How big the ticket is. A handyman job can’t pay for an expensive click. A reroof can. So for small-ticket trades, your Google Business Profile and reviews do most of the work, and Google Ads fill gaps.

03

The parts that don’t change

Some things hold for every trade on this page:

  • Somebody has to answer. Ads that make the phone ring at hours nobody picks up are wasted money in any trade.
  • You own it all. Your ad accounts, your website, your Google profile and your data are in your name.
  • I count quotes, not clicks. A qualified lead is a lead from my marketing that you send a quote to. That’s how I measure, and it’s how the 30-day pilot decides when my monthly fee starts.
  • Utah licensing shows up everywhere. How big a job a handyman can take on, which class a demolition or concrete contractor holds, whether a plumber’s DOPL license is on the site. Each trade page covers its own rules.

Your trade isn’t listed?

These eight have their own pages, but I work with other Utah contractors and service businesses too. Call me and tell me how your customers find you. If I don’t think I can help, I’ll say so.

Questions

Do you only do marketing for these eight trades?

No. These are the trades with their own pages. If you’re a Utah contractor in another trade, call me and I’ll tell you straight if it fits.

You’ve only had clients in three of these trades. Why should a roofer trust you?

Fair question. I’m not going to claim roofing results I don’t have. I’ll show you exactly how I’d run it, and the 30-day pilot means you’re not locked in while you find out.

Which trade is easiest to market?

None of them are easy. The trades with emergency calls and LSA usually show whether it’s working sooner, because people call right away. The trades with long decisions take more patience and more follow-up.

Do you work outside Salt Lake and Summit County?

Yes. Those are where I focus, and I’m based in Tooele, but I work with contractors across Utah by phone and video. See where I work.

Next step

See how it works for your trade

Pick your trade above, or skip ahead. The 30-day pilot is a one-time setup fee paid up front (non-refundable). The 30 days start the day your ads go live, and my monthly fee doesn’t start until day 30 or your first qualified lead, whichever comes later. Ad spend goes from you to Google or Meta directly. After billing starts, it’s month-to-month with 30 days’ notice. Pricing depends on what you need; here’s how it works.
